Sixteen teams from Mannar qualify for final round

Sixteen teams from Mannar qualified from the first leg of the MILO Football Champs 2024 – Northern Province (under 10 and under 12) tournament held in the Mannar District on Saturday.

The first leg of the tournament in Mannar drew 64 teams, including 16 girls’ teams.

The tournament held under two age categories saw Adampan Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School (Girls under 10), Illuppaikkadavai Tamil Maha Vidyalaya (Girls under – 12) and St. Xavier’s Boys National College (Boys – under 10 and under 12) emerging victorious in their respective age category events.

From the weekend’s event, the teams representing the following schools qualified to compete in the highly anticipated final round, scheduled to be held at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna on March 23.

Under 10 Girls: Adampan Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School, St. Xavier’s Girls National College, St. Lucia’s Maha Vidyalaya, Thuya Josephvaz Maha Vidyalam.

Illuppaikkadavai Tamil Maha Vidyalaya were the winners of the Girls Under 12 event.

Under 10 Boys: St. Xavier’s Boys National College, Illuppaikkadavai Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Arippu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School, Sithivinayagar Hindu College.

Under 12 Girls: Illuppaikkadavai Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Vaddakandal Government Tamil Mixed School, St. Xavier’s Girls National College, Karunkandal Roman Catholic Tamil Maha Vidyalaya.

Under 12 Boys: St. Xavier’s Boys National College, Thuya Josephvaz Maha Vidyalam, St. Lucia’s Maha Vidyalaya, St. Anne’s College.

The MILO Football Champs programme aims to ignite the sportsmanship skills of aspiring athletes in the Northern province. Alongside the tournament, a select group of talented players will receive specialized training on weekends over the coming months, guided by seasoned coaches from the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association. With the support of the Ministry of Education, Northern Province Department of Education, and the sponsorship of Nestlé MILO, the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association will manage the facilitation of this programme.
