Namal replaces Basil as SLPP National Organiser
The ruling SLPP yesterday (27) replaced its National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa with Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa.
Party sources said that the decision had been made at an executive committee meeting of the SLPP at former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official residence at Wijerama Road in Colombo.
The announcement was made by State Minister D.V. Chanaka following the meeting. Political sources said that the SLPP wanted to fill the vacancy before the launch of its campaign for the forthcoming presidential election.
Responding to The Island queries, sources said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe seemed to have rejected the SLPP’s call for early parliamentary polls ahead of presidential poll scheduled for Sept/Oct 2024.
