Heavy showers likely in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern and Uva provinces

Showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, Northern and North-western provinces, Galle and Matara districts and at several places elsewhere of the island after 12.00 noon. Heavy showers about 100mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Winds will be south-westerly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.  Wind speed may increase in the sea areas around the island from this evening (17) and may increase up to (40-45)kmph at times over the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle can be fairly rough at times but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
