Fmr President Bandaranaike calls on Indian PM Narendra Modi

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga called on the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during her visit to India.

Kumaratunga is visiting India to attend the ongoing international conference Samvad- Global Hindu-Buddhist Initiative on conflict avoidance and environment consciousness.

International media reports that the former president called on the Indian Prime Minister for a discussion, on the sidelines of the conference.

The conference is held by Vivekananda International Foundation

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the successful holding of the parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka, in a peaceful manner as a reflective of the strength of democracy in the country.

He also deeply appreciated the leadership role played by Chandrika Kumaratunga in the country, and in strengthening relations between India and Sri Lanka.

He expressed confidence that Former Sri Lankan president Kumaratunga would continue to play an important role in Sri Lanka to move towards genuine reconciliation and social harmony where the aspirations of all the communities would be met within the framework of  a united Sri Lanka.
