Kotakethana murder mysteries to be solved soon?
Genetech Molecular Diagnostics Research Institute (GMDRI), after analyzing bio samples taken from the crime scenes and the remains of the victims, has confirmed that four murders that were committed in Kotakethana and Kahawatte areas have been linked to a single person.
Senior Scientist and Head of the GMDRI, Dr. Ruwan Illeperuma told Ceylon Today that he has been able to locate a common DNA profile from four different cases. According to him, the isolated samples taken from the remains of the victims as well as the crime scenes of four different cases, belong to one particular male individual with that particular DNA profile.
"We were able to find a common DNA profile from four different cases. The first case was in 2010 where we managed to isolate a DNA profile from a vaginal secretion of an old rape victim and in 2011 another vaginal sample generated that same sample.Thirdly in 2011 we were able to get a DNA profile from a red colour stain which was found on the leaf of a tree near the crime scene. Again in the 2012 the double homicide of a mother and daughter, we managed to isolate a male DNA profile from the daughter and we noticed that all four of these DNA profiles were the same," he said.
