US bombardment on Afghan hospital is a war crime – UNHRC
At least 20, including three children were killed and 37 people seriously injured when a Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) hospital in the city of Kunduz in Afghanistan was hit when US forces carried out air strikes in the area. The dead included at least 12 members of staff and seven patients – three of whom where children.
The bombardment, which occurred early on yesterday (3rd) morning, went on for more than 30 minutes despite the charity raising the alarm with US and Afghan officials, and destroyed much of the compound in Kunduz.
Meanwhile, UN human rights chief High Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein urged a full and transparent investigation into the attack. He said if established as deliberate in a court of law, an air strike on a hospital may amount to a war crime. This event is utterly tragic, inexcusable and possibly even criminal," Zeid said in a statement.
