World leaders gather in Paris to make Global decision on Climate Change
The conference known as COP21 will commence on Monday with around 150 global leaders gathering in Paris amidst heavy security.
The critical UN climate meeting will see a total participation of around 40,000 people till the 11th of December. 147 heads of states and government will be attending the meeting. Back in 2009 in Copenhagen it was only 115 nations that attended to arrive at a long term global agreement on climate change.
Global Impact
The recent violent attacks have encouraged many leaders to attend the conference in France in an expression of solidarity with the French people.
More than 180 nations have presented national plans for reduction in emissions is a focus point in the conference, but there is still the question of how to monitor if those commitments are carried out
The difficulty arises with many the various views that nations have on what a long term agreement should be. Some nations reject the notion of f 2C and say 1.5C must be the standard while other look at de-carbonizing the world by the middle or end of this century which spells out badly for Oil producers.
A Large event in Melbourne on Friday kick started a global campaign calling for a pact on slashing greenhouse gases at the critical talks in Paris. The rallies took part all over the world from New New Zealand, to the Philippines, Bangladesh, Japan, South Africa and the UK.Similar events were planned for Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Mexico City, among others cities.
