President urges health sector to overcome challenges
President Maithripala Sirisena, at the 81st Annual General meeting of Public Health Inspectors, stated that it is imperative to strengthen the services that are in place to stop diseases when undertaking the task of creating a healthy people.
The president pointed out that nearly 17 or 18 percent of the country’s population suffered from diabetes, and there are cardiology problems as well as respiratory diseases.
“You must look into the percentage of healthy individuals in comparison to each disease. Thereby, we are faced with a major challenge”, he said
He added that if the government needs to do something, and if the government needs to provide something, it will be provided without any hesitation
The president also commended retired public health officers for the services they rendered during their tenures.
