The responsibility of politicians elected through the public mandate is rebuilding the nation, not walking on streets. These were the sentiments expressed by President Maithripala Sirisena in Polonnaruwa on Sunday.
The countrywide programme to renovate 3100 kilometres of rural roads commenced near the Weerapura village in the Lankapura administrative division in Polonnaruwa on Sunday.
Under the joint road development programme, a sum of 300 million rupees is being spent on the renovation of 170 kilometres of rural roads in the Polonnaruwa district.
