Russia’s Putin and Turkey’s Erdogan to mend ties

Turkey and Russia have reached a milestone in their relationship, with steps to normalize the ties between the two nations.

According to Putin the two discussed the expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

“The return of our tourists to Turkey is on our agenda,” said Putin. He added that the two countries are working to restore charter flights from Russia to Turkey.

Erdogan pointed out that steps will be taken in “joint investment issues” and other economic ties, adding that a gas project with Russia will be made a reality soon.

It was the first meeting between Putin and Erdogan since Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet last November, sparking a deep diplomatic crisis while

Putin brought the hammerer down;Blocking trade ties with Ankara and banning the import of food items from Turkey, Putin also struck at the Turkish tourism industry, halting charter flights that carried millions of Russians to Turkish resorts.

Visa-free travel to Russia was canceled for Turks, and Turkish workers were asked to leave, their visas revoked.

Erdogan’s visit to Putin’s hometown of St Petersburg on Tuesday was also his first foreign trip since a failed coup attempt last month.

The backlash that erupted from Erdogan’s government against the coup and its instigators have been harsh and there has been a shadowy uncertainty  that has taken over Turkeys relations with the west
