If you are in the luckiest one per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent – Warren Buffett

A number of projects got underway on Tuesday, August 16, as well under Gammedda 100 days initiative, to change the fate of people that work tirelessly to uplift their standard of living.

Below is a poem by a happy villager in the Diyawara village

Out of the 150 families residing in the Diyawara village, Hambegamuwa, a majority suffer from chronic kidney disease. During the last two weeks alone,  two lives were lost owing to the disease. The latest incident was reported on Monday, August 15.

News 1st witnessed the plight of these people and took steps, through the Gammedda 100-days initiative, to provide clean drinking water to these hard-working people.

This, is the ninth project under the Gammedda 100 days initiative

Clean, drinking water will be provided to 400 families in and around the Diyawara village, following the completion of this project.

Steps were taken to construct a well 30 feet deep and 12 feet in breadth, at the outset of the project.  A Reverse Osmosis Plant will be installed to filter water from a well and ensure that residents will benefit from clean drinking water.

“We cried and begged, no one listened to our pleas. It is a dream come true, the Gammedda 100 day initiative has come to our village and provided a solution to the water problem,” said a villager.

Meanwhile, the water filtration project, which was constructed in the Muthumal Rajamaha Viharaya area in Hambegamuwa, under the Gammedda 100-days initiative, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy, continues to receive much attention as residents clamour to obtain the new, clean drinking water.

To keep up with the high demand, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed a 10,000 litre mobile supply of water to the area.

Through the Gammedda 100-days initiative, we came across another village which is in desperate need for clean drinking water, as the only well in the village is brackish and is a major source of rapidly spreading chronic kidney disease amongst the community. Hence, a project was launched today to provide clean drinking water to these villagers.

This project is aided by the Central Bearings and Machinery Company and the Sri Lanka Navy.

“Each and every penny spent on this project is being audited. Moreover each and every project is undertaken by following the advice and expertise of engineers. We are responsible for every penny donated for these projects. We utilise every penny for your betterment”, explained  Gayan Sampath, Director – News 1st.

“I believe that this endeavour undertaken by the Sirasa Media Institution is a great initiative. It canot be summed up by words.I received several request to provide clean drinking water to this village. However we were unable to undertake this task,” said Chandana Anuruddha, Divisional Secretary of Kebithigollewa.

“The politicians who come to your village looking for votes have broken  promises on several occassions. Think about this day.If you can trust us in our strength, then together as one we can all put an end to our issues,” said Charitha Fernando, Assistant Manager – News 1st.
