Assault on journalist Upali Tennekoon: Phone records of suspect to be presented to court

The suspect in connection with the assault launched on senior journalist Upali Tennokoon was produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

The Army Intelligence Officer was arrested for allegedly assaulting senior journalist Upali Tennakoon on January 23,  2009.

However, the attorney-at-law representing suspect stated in court that phone records have proved that the suspect was in Kohuwala on the same day that senior Journalist Upali Tennakoon was said to have been assaulted.

Gampaha Chief Magistrate Kavindya Nanayakkara ordered that the said phone records be presented to court.

The suspect, who allegedly launched the assault, was identified by Upali Tennakoon and his wife during an identification parade on August 26.
