Lost elephant habitat in Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Ampara leads to ‘encroachment’
It was reported from Hambantota, Polonnaruwa and Ampara today that wild elephants are encroaching on villages due to dry weather patterns and that three wild pachyderms were trapped in the Morakanda-Yaya Village in Walsapugala, Hambantota.
An individual in the area claimed that the elephants have no place for their habitat as roads are being constructed.
As a result, wild elephants have encroached on the Weerapura Village in Lankapura, Polonnaruwa. It was stated that wild elephants from the Somawathi National Park and the other national parks have caused serious damage to houses in the area
According to a correspondent, the cause of the issue was the malfunctioning electricity fence.
It was also reported that a person was killed in a wild elephant attack in Uhana, Ampara on Monday morning.
