‘Rebirth’ rocks at the ‘Margarita Blue’

With the joining of its new band members the popular band ‘Rebirth’ is once again making waves in the music and entertainment industry. ‘Rebirth comprises of six passionate musicians, who are highly skilled in a wide genre of music ranging from Pop, Rock and Dance to that of the ever popular Sri Lankan music preferences.

The band portrays their talents through each and every performance from their live gigs to the light whimsical ballads. Rebirth has the ability to cover any era or genre of music and have the talent to present each and every performance in a spellbinding manner.
With the addition of its new members the band has become even stronger and is power packed to provide unlimited entertainment. The Galadari Hotel’s immensely popular pub the ‘Margarita Blue’ now comes alive with Rebirth’s breathtaking performances which commenced from 28 March and will continue to the end of April 2012, every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Rebirth is lead by Marlon Amarasekera who began his career in music as a vocalist who performed in many bands in Sri Lanka. In the year 1998 he joined the European based Sri Lankan band ‘Friends’ as a singer/lead guitarist performing mostly in Switzerland, Germany and Holland. Marlon’s musical career opened doors for him to tour many parts of the world which include countries such as the USA, Australia, Finland and Sweden etc. After a long 12 year stint with ‘Friends’ Marlon formed his own band which was the initial making of ‘Rebirth.’
Rebirth’s present team line up comprises of Damian Joseph, Ruwan Cooray, Janka Ancova, Chaminda Karunaratne and Nishantha Fernando.
Damian plays Bass Guitar/Vocals and needs no introduction, he has played in a couple of the most popular bands in Colombo in the late 80`s and 90`s, including Cardinal`s Outburst and Average Steelers, where he was one of the founder members in both those bands. Later on he toured Europe with the Steelers for many years, and now he is back in Colombo.
Ruwan the Keyboard wizard has spent most of his career in Italy while Chaminda plays the Drums. Chaminda’s former bands include Rattle Snake/Sound Journey. Having been in the music scene for 20 years, he is famous for his reggae grooves.
Adding the glamour and spice of female vocals to the band is Janka who has the angelic voice which can cover the likes of musical divas such as Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston to that of Lady Ga Ga.
Nishantha is on the Piano/Synth/Vocals and has been in the industry for 24 years. He is also a Composer and Music Director, and has played with various bands including Super Pink, Purple, Cosmic Rays and Heart and Soul to name a few.
Marlon who stands as the guiding light of Rebirth together with his team brings to life a new era of music to the Margarita Blue. This is expected to be the most happening musical entertainment event this holiday season, therefore make sure that you do not miss out on the action!
