SL Consulate in USA’s biggest economy woos int’l investors with special campaign

Sri Lanka has successfully showcased its latest investment opportunities to keen global investors who visited the world’s ninth largest economy to gauge the future of US manufacturing and global economic outlook.

The Sri Lankan pavilion at the ‘International Trade Outlook 2012’ event held in California, the biggest economy in US and the ninth largest in the world, Sidath Kumar, Consul/Minister - Commercial (left) and Dr. Hector Weerasinghe, Consul General (centre) of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, promote Sri Lanka to a prospective Japanese investor at the ‘International Trade Outlook 2012’ event held at Hyatt Regency Long Beach, Californiadrew strong interest among the visitors -with more than 1000 prominent business executives, government officials and members of the diplomatic corps taking part.
Dr. Hector Weerasinghe, Consul General in LA, said: “Among the various participants promoting their products and services, Sri Lanka was the only Consulate that received the opportunity to undertake a promotional campaign. Our participation paved the way to create awareness on Sri Lanka’s trade and investment prospects.”
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles joined by Sidath Kumar, Consul/Minister (Commercial), took the initiative to promote Sri Lanka investment opportunities, tourism, and export commodities at this event which was jointly organized by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation and the World Trade Center Association Los Angeles-Long Beach. The event was held at Hyatt Regency Hotel.
“Among our promotional efforts were DVDs on tourism, doing business in Sri Lanka, investment opportunities and trade directory and promotional brochures on tourism, tour packages and certain products such as tea and spices were distributed among the participants” added Consul General Dr. Weerasinghe.
“Free pure Ceylon tea samples in different color packages of 5 tea bags showing teas of Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Dimbulla and loose tea in 25 grams received from Sri Lanka Tea Board were also distributed to participants,” revealed Sidath Kumar, Consul/Minister (Commercial) of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles.
