PGTI to hold a tournament in Sri Lanka

The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has chosen Sri Lanka to host one of its main annual golf competitions, which will be held during the next month in Colombo.

The four day tournament which is titled as “The Standard Chartered Open 2012” will see the presence of leading Indian players taking part.

Among them would be stars such as Shiv Kapur, Anirban Lahiri, Himmat Rai, Chiragh Kumar and Digvijay Singh.

Local golfing stars, who are also prominent PGTI members such as Mithun Perera and Anura Rohana too will take part in the upcoming PGTI golf tournament.

The tournament is expected to be kicked of on the 15th of August and will run up until the 18th  August at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

“We are delighted to announce our first event in Sri Lanka under the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) calendar. The Standard Chartered Open in Sri Lanka will help generate tremendous interest in the country and help grow the sport” PGTI Director, Padamjit Sandhu was quoted saying in the statement.

The venue of the tournament, The Royal Colombo Golf Club, is the oldest golf club in Sri Lanka, which has been established in 1880.

The par 71 course measures 6,560 yards through a varied ‘landscape’ of fairways, trees and water bodies.

Formed in 2006, Professional Golf Tour of India is the recognized official body of professional golf in India and has over 300 members under its belt.
