A new avenue of income for Ports Authority

The Ports Authority has earned a high income through re-export of vehicles.

The spacious Mahinda Rajapaksa harbour international harbour in Magampura has become the most suitable harbour for re-export of vehicles. The vehicles being exported from Japan are unloaded at the Magampura harbour before they are shipped to countries in Europe and the Middle East. Engineer in charge of the southern harbour project Agilhewa Geeganage said that this service cannot be provided at the Colombo hatbour as it does not have the necessary space.
He said that seventy five percent of the total income earned through containers at Colombo harbour is by re export. Seventy five percent of the income is earned through re-export. The business being carried out in the Magampura harbour was not done in Colombo. He said the work done by the other harbours will be accomplished while the yard is being prepared to carry out the task. Eight large ships that transport vehicles have already anchored at the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa harbour. He said that more ships are expected at the Magampura harbour in the coming days.
