A unique new savings account with exclusive benefits for women has been launched by Commercial Bank of Ceylon in recognition of the fact that women are shouldering an increasing number of responsibilities while heading more and more Sri Lankan households, resulting in the economically active female population in Sri Lanka undergoing rapid growth.

Branded ‘Anagi’ Women’s Savings Account, the new account offers an interest rate over the normal savings rate, one of the best rates in the savings account category for women, Gold Loans at a concessionary rate for the purchase of jewellery and a Combank Shopping Debit Card, the Bank said.
Offered by the benchmark private bank in Sri Lanka, an ‘Anagi’ savings account can be opened with a minimum deposit of Rs 1,000. Account holders have a choice of a branded passbook or statement based savings.
“A savings product of this nature is timely,” said Commercial Bank’s Chief Operating Officer Jegan Durairatnam. “The contribution of women to GDP is substantial, and more than half of the 10 million plus women in Sri Lanka are increasingly shouldering financial responsibilities, in addition to the multiple roles they play. There is therefore, immense potential for a product that caters exclusively to this segment.”
“Besides the tangible and specific value additions attached to an ‘Anagi’ savings account, one of the strongest attractions to prospective account holders is that it is offered by the bank that operates Sri Lanka’s largest single ATM network of 522 terminals and has 220 branches and service points across the country,” he said.
Commercial Bank is the largest private bank in Sri Lanka, and the only Sri Lankan Bank listed in the world’s Top 1,000 Banks for two years consecutively. The Bank has been adjudged ‘Best Bank in Sri Lanka’ for 14 consecutive years by ‘Global Finance’ Magazine, and has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank from ‘The Banker,’ ‘FinanceAsia,’ ‘Euromoney’ and ‘Trade Finance’ magazines. Commercial Bank also operates 17 service points in Bangladesh and is the 4th largest foreign bank in that country.
