General Secretary of the Lanka Teacher Services Union has told the Criminal Investigations Department that he is not a teacher although he holds the Post of General Secretary. An enjoining order has been issued on the Lanka Teacher Services Union preventing it from staging protests with the involvement of Grade Five students.
General Secretary of the Lanka Teacher Services Union Mahinda Samarasinghe made this confession in response to a request made by the CID to give a statement on the announcements made in respect of the Grade Five Scholaarship Examination. He had further said that he has also been interdicted from the job he was engaged.
He revealed to the CID that he could not verify the truth with regard to the statement made by him that Grade Five Scholarship Examination papers had leaked. However, making a statement to the BBC World Service earlier, he has said that he had sufficient evidence to prove that examination papers had leaked. The CID said that it is carrying out a comprehensive investigation on the distorted views expressed by Mahinda Jayasinghe who appears as the General Secretary of the Lanka Teacher Services Union to create a fiasco in the field of examinations.
In response to a query made by ITN in respect of this incident, from Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana revealed that investigations are in place in respect of the second faction which induced Mahinda Jayasinghe to make such false statements.
The Police Spokesman said that he appeared before the Gampaha Court today. He gave a statement to the CID. But he had mentioned nothing about irregularities in the Examination. What he had said was that he had received information from another party. The court ordered him to appear again on Thursday with all information. The Police Media Spokesman added that it had not yet been revealed of any irregularities in the Examination through direct evidence
