The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce announced that the applications are now closed for the Best Corporate Citizen Award 2012 for sustainable business and CSR.

At present an independent evaluation panel is evaluating the entries to select the most deserving award winners.
Based on the theme, ‘Getting the balance right!’ the annual award intends to promote strategic corporate sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among the Sri Lankan corporate sector.
The Chamber Secretariat also announced that from last year onwards the panel has decided to incorporate areas in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as part of the review process, thereby further improving the coverage of the award.
Continuing its practice, the awards will be presented to outstanding CSR projects undertaken by private/public sector (Government) entities in a vast range of activities. Five best CSR projects will be awarded while all projects that have achieved a high standard will receive certificates of merit.  The Chamber Secretariat is pleased to have received an overwhelming response to the call for applications, not only from the organisations that have been consistently applying for the awards for the past few years, but also from several newcomers.  Commenting on this, Alikie Perera, Deputy Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce stated that the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce would be holding the event for the ninth consecutive year in 2012. “Over the years there has been increased interest in the Best Corporate Citizen Award. It shows that more and more corporates in our country are increasingly getting involved in CSR activities. Businesses are aware that they can make positive contributions to the societies in which they operate and it is a win-win for both companies and for the society in general. As the main business chamber of the country, that is what we want to encourage: an approach that brings positive results for people, planet and profits,” Perera added. The Best Corporate Citizen Award 2012 will be held on 12 November 2012 at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo. More information can be obtained from www.chamber.lk.
