Colts, Badureliya, Chilaw Marians and Ports Authority in outright wins

Outright wins were recorded by Colts, Badureliya, Chilaw Marians and Ports Authority while Ragama CC would be rueing a late declaration that cost them victory against Moors in the Tier A Major League Tournament during the last week-end. The other drawn encounter was the CCC versus Bloomfield match.

Colts trounced Saracens by 226 runs in a Group A match at their home turf. Batting first, Colts made 246 with P.A.R.P. Perera top scoring with 92 and W.I.A. Fernando 72. D.K.R.C. Jayatissa took 5 for 51 and S.K.C. Randunu 3 for 78. Saracens were bowled out for 152 with K. Anjula claiming 4 for 38 and N.G.R.P. Jayasuriya 3 for 42. Colts made 277 in the second essay. Set 391 to win, Saracens were dismissed for 145 with Dilruwan Perera 5 for 46 and N.G.R.P. Jayasuriya 4 for 63 doing the damage.

Badureliya broke a long spate of defeats at the expense of Army winning by 6 wickets in a Group B match at Kalutara.

Electing to bat first, Army folded up for 152 against the bowling of N.P. Rajesh who took 5 wickets for 41 and D. Gunaratne 4 for 36. Badureliya replied with 248. I.A.S. Chathuranga made an unbeaten 69, D.R.N. de Silva 65 and P. Nissanka 49. W.M. Madushanka took 5 for 41 and J.S. Perera 3 for 49.

Army totalled 221 in the second innings, and Badureliya knocked off the required 126 for the loss of 4 wickets anchored by P. Nissanka who was unbeaten on 60.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority came from behind having trailed NCC by 99 runs in the first innings to pull off a surprise 4 wicket win in a Group B match at Katunayake.

Batting first NCC made 220 to which Ports Authority replied with 121. NCC flopped to 120 in the second innings against the pace bowling of N.C. Komasaru who took 7 for 49 for a match bag of 10 for 127. Ports Authority got home with W.A.I. Rangana stroking 51. W.W.A.G. Maneeshan made 46 and M.A. Liyanapathiranage 45.

Meanwhile, Chilaw Marians chalked up a 6 wicket win over Tamil Union in a Group B match at the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium. Tamil Union made 305 with D.M. de Silva top scoring with 72 and Y. Mendis 61. Chilaw Marians replied with 296 on a top score of 81 by B.O.P. Fernando, and

S.C. Serasinghe 65 and I. Udana 44. Tamil Union were bowled out for 196 in the second innings. Chilaw Marians reached the 207-run victory target for the loss of 4 wickets steered by an unbeaten 88 by B.O.P. Fernando and G.S.N.F.G. Jayasuriya 62.

Sri Lanka player Sachith Pathirana struck a career best 168 for CCC in the drawn match against  Bloomfield in a Group A match played at Bloomfield grounds. In a high scoring affair, CCC, put into bat, piled up 445 having recovered from 4 for 89. Malinda Warnapura made 85.

Bloomfield replied with 334 with the chief run getters being P. Hettiwatte 78 and N. Franscisco 72. Pathirana claimed 4 for 91 for a good double.

CCC were on 310 for 8 wickets at stumps in the second innings with W.M.K. Bandara scoring 85 and L.D. Madushanka 52 not out.

At Moors grounds. Set 457 to win Moors were 132 for 7 against Ragama CC when stumps were drawn in a Group A match.

Ragama made 380 and 317 for 5 declared. B.K.E.L. Milantha stole the honours with twin centuries 112 and an unbeaten 150. Moors made 241 in the first innings, thanks to a back to the wall 121 by L.P.C. Silva. M.A. Aponso claimed 6 for 79.
