ICC U-19 WORLD CUP 2018: Sri Lanka lose to Pakistan U-19 by 3 wickets

Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan U-19 by 3 wickets in an ICC Under-19 World Cup Group D match played at Whangarei, New Zealand. Batting first, Sri Lanka totalled 188 in 48.2 overs to which Pakistan replied with 190 for 7 wickets.

Top scorer for the Lankans was Jehan Daniels who made 53, and Ashen Bandara 37.  Daniels struck 4 boundaries and a six in his 70-ball knock while Bandara’s 56-ball innings contained 2 boundaries.

Suleman Shafqat was Pakistan’s main wicket taker with 3 for 29. Shaheen Shan Afridi took 2 for 41.

The Pakistanis were in a spot of bother losing 3 wickets for 57 runs before Ali Zaryab Asif (59) and  Mohammad Taha 24 rallied their side in a 61-run alliance for the fourth wicket. From there Pakistan prospered from useful contributions by Mohammad Taha and Hasan Khan who made 24 each with the latter remaining unbeaten to the end.

Pace bowler T. Rashmika claimed 3 wickets for 7 for the Sri Lankans.

The Super League Playoff Semi Final 1 will be played on January 27 at the Hagley Oval and the Super League Playoff Semi Final 2 on January 28 at Queenstown Events Centre, Queenstown. The final will be played on February 03 at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganu.

This is the twelfth edition of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and the third championship to be held in New Zealand after 2002 and 2010.
