Parts of an LTTE submarine found in Mullaitivu
Parts of an LTTE submarine have been found in Mullivaikal in Mullaitivu, our reporter in the area said.
Two parts of an LTTE submarine were recovered in the area by the security forces.
The security forces believe that while the submarine had been manufactured by the LTTE before the end of the war, it was not likely to have been used.
Investigations have been launched into the discovery. Mullivaikal was among the areas where the LTTE fought its final battle before eventually losing to the Army in May 2009.
During the war the LTTE had a strong sea unit and manufactured mini-subs and human torpedoes to attack the Navy.
Following the defeat of the LTTE the military recovered several LTTE combat boats and mini-subs. (Colombo Gazette)
