Chilaw Marians rout Ragama, SL Ports Authority drub Colts, NCC down Saracens and SSC outwit BRC

TIER A SUPER EIGHT:

Chilaw Marians routed Ragama CC by an innings and 6 runs, SL Ports Authority drubbed Colts by an innings and 134 runs, NCC annihilated Saracens SC by 313 runs while SSC beat BRC by 8 wickets in the Tier A Super Eight third round matches conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) last week.

At the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium, Ragama was shot out for 54 and Chilaw Marians totalled 211 and went on to bowl out Ragama for 148. It was a fine all-round display by Chilaw Marians with Shehan Jayasuriya capping a brilliant all-round display picking 7 for 22 and 3 for 66 for a match bag of 10 wickets for 88, and top score of 80 off 90 balls containing 9 boundaries and a six.

At the SSC grounds, Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC bundled out Colts for 92 and went on to amass 410 for 9 declared before dismissing Colts a second time for 184 for an innings and 134 runs win.

Pace bowler N.C. Komasaru continued his superb run throughout the tournament claiming 5 wickets for 38 and 5 for 80 for a remarkable match bag of 10 for 118. Co-paceman M.A. Liyanapathiranage too returned impressive figures of 4 for 44 and 5 for 42 for a match bag of 9 for 86.

The mainstay with the bat for Ports Authority was English player N.R.D. Compton who scored 98 inclusive of 8 boundaries. W.W.A.G. Maneeshan made an unbeaten 54 and K.G.N. Randika 42.

At the FTZ grounds Katunayake, NCC pulled off a big 313-run win over Saracens SC. Batting first NCC recovered from 5 for 34 to total 284, thanks to a superb 131 off 205 balls by No.7 batsman P.H.T. Kaushal who struck 15 boundaries and a six. He was well supported by P.C. de Silva who made 59.

Saracens crumbled for 132 with only No.9 batsman R.M. Liyanarachchi making a substantial unbeaten on 37. Doing the damage with the ball was C. Karunaratne who claimed 4 for 38 and L. Ambuldeniya 3 for 19. NCC made 287 in the second innings on a top score of 79 off 85 balls by P.C. de Silva who struck 8 boundaries and 2 sixes while S.N. Gunasinge scored 71 off 131 containing 6 boundaries. A.K. Perera chipped in with 44. D.K.R.C. Jayatissa collected 4 for 58. Set 439 to win, Saracens were shot out for 126 with S.N. Peiris claiming 6 for 49.

At the Galle International Stadium, SSC beat BRC by 8 wickets. BRC, batting first, scored 200 with H.E. Vithana top scoring with 77 off 128 balls inclusive of 10 boundaries. T.N. Sampath made 42. A. Senaratne took 5 for 52 and Sachithra Senanayake 2 for 49. SSC, in reply, could muster only 199 with H. Ramanayake having superb figures of 6 for 18. Kaushal Silva scored 42 and Chamara Kapugedera 33. BRC, in the second essay, were bowled out for 183 with Senaratne turning out to be the hero with the ball claiming 4 for 36 for a match bag of 9 for 88. SSC chased down 184 on an unbeaten 85 off 106 balls by Kaushal Silva who struck 15 boundaries and a six, and Milinda Siriwardena who made 66 off 93 balls inclusive of 7 boundaries and a six.
