U-23 WOMEN’S: Kandy in first innings win over Dambulla; Colombo vs. Galle a draw

SLC U-23 WOMEN’S SUPER PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT 2018

Kandy registered a first innings win over Dambulla while Colombo and Galle drew their match with rain intervening in the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) conducted Under-23 Women’s Super Provincial Tournament 2018 matches played this week. Both matches were played at the Aaron grounds, Horana on April 3 and 4 respectively.

Kandy batting first in the fourth match of the tournament posted 126 for 9 wickets. Sayani Oshadi top scored with a fine 46 in putting Kandy on top. The other main run getters were Kavindi Parami 19 and Nimesha Thimeshini unbeaten on 19.

The pick of the bowlers for Dambulla was Shashini Fernando who claimed 3 wickets for 29.

Dambulla in their turn flopped for 49 against a fine spell by Sayani Oshadi who returned fine figures of 5 for 18. Her effort marked a fine all-round performance in the wake of also stealing the limelight with the bat. She found good support from Nimesha Thimeshini who took 2 for 8. Lihini Apsara was the only batter to top double figures for Dambulla with 14.

However, Dambulla found the consolation of putting Kandy on the defensive in the second innings having lost 5 wickets for 30 runs when stumps were drawn. Sayani Dineshika collected 3 wickets for 9 runs.

Meanwhile, the match between Colombo and Galle was a low scoring affair with both sides not going beyond 50 plus totals. Colombo, taking first lease, were all out for 53 with Janadi Anali making 19. Sachini Nisansala took 3 for 6 and Sathya Sandeepani 2 for 9.

Galle replied with 52 for 9 when stumps were drawn with Nilakshana Sandamini scoring the major share of 31.  Tharika Sewwandi reaped 4 wickets for 19, Janadi Anali 2 for 2 and Nimesha Madushani 2 for 16.
