Rob Ford: Text message from Kathleen Wynne would suffice
Mayor Rob Ford called Tuesday for a one-on-one meeting with Premier Kathleen Wynne to discuss the city’s request for provincial money to pay for storm and flood costs.
On Wednesday, he said he would make due with a phone call.
On Thursday, he said an email, text message, or press release would suffice.
Ford explained to the hosts of a U.S. sports radio show, The Sports Junkies, that the Premier wants to meet with Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly rather than him. Wynne has refused to deal with Ford since city council assigned Kelly most of Ford’s powers in the wake of his crack cocaine scandal.
When one of the Junkies asked Ford why the Premier did not want to meet with him, Ford made no mention of the scandal.
“She’s a Liberal, and I’m a Conservative, and that’s what it comes down to,” he said. “And she can spin it any way she wants, but — she wants to deal with the deputy mayor. So the deputy mayor she meets with, and he’s a Liberal. So there’s just politics.”
He said he simply wants to know how much money the city is going to get — and that Wynne could tell him in “a phone call or an email or anything.”
A Junkie said Wynne could just text Ford. He responded, “Exactly. Text me. Or go through the media, or do anything.”
Ford appears on the Washington, D.C. show every Thursday morning to make NFL picks. His comments to the Junkies have made news on several occasions in recent weeks. Last Thursday, he spoke favourably of marijuana decriminalization, then denied later in the day that he had done so; in December, he declared that “women love money.”
This week, one of the Junkies asked Ford about his Etobicoke home. Ford noted that it is a modest bungalow. He also said his family “just” has “a few condos” in Florida.
“We have like six of them down there,” he said.
Ford again invited the Junkies to Toronto, and he promised to pay for their dinner at Harbour Sixty steakhouse.
One of the Junkies said they would want to go to the places where Ford is photographed with “hotties” — such as Muzik nightclub, where Ford made an appearance on the weekend. He said he would take them to Muzik, “no problem.”
