People’s Bank performs ‘Avurudu Ganu-Denu’ with President at Tangalle branch

The People’s Bank joined the nation to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in true Sri Lankan style when it held one of the most important Avurudu customs ‘Avurudu Ganu-Denu’ under the distinguished patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 15 April at its Tangalle branch.
In addition to taking part in the customary Ganu-Denu program, the President also distributed gifts to several children who hold Isuru Udana Savings Accounts and also handed over loans to the recipients of SME loans.
The Avurudu Ganu-Denu program was attended by a large number of customers and members of the public including the Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs Mervin Silva, Deputy Minister of Postal Services  Sanath Jayasuriya, People’s Bank Chief Executive Officer/General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar, DGM (Cooperative and Development) T.A. Ariyapala, DGM (Operations) Boniface Silva, Regional Manager, Hambantota R.M. Ariyasena, Assistant Regional Managers J.A. Amarasiri and G. Hendavitharana, Branch Manager, Tangalle Sujith Kumarasinghe and staff members.  Special Avurudu Ganu Denu programs were also held at People’s Bank branches island-wide where customers were afforded an opportunity to be part of this important Sri Lankan ritual by visiting the closest People’s Bank branch.
As a means of sharing the spirit of Avurudu, the bank distributed gifts to all customers who opened ‘Avurudu Savings Certificates’ on this day while arrangements were also made to reward other customers with cash prizes.
