The 23rd annual handing over ceremony of educational equipment to visually impaired students in Sri Lanka, organised by the Sri Lanka Council for the Blind (SLCB), with the financial sponsorship of the Korean Businessmen’s Association (KBA), was held on 25 July 2014 at 10 a.m. at the YWCA Auditorium, No. 07, Rotunda Gardens, Colombo 03.
The KBA is collaborating with the SLCB for the 18th consecutive year to sponsor this worthy project through which educational equipment packages including an MP3 player with recording facilities, a white stick, a set of Braille papers and a talking watch, each, will be handed over to approximately 50 visually impaired students selected from across the island, who are currently preparing for their GCE Advanced Level Examination.
The KBA has continued with this program for nearly two decades as part of their social responsibility commitments, with the view of promoting the social wellbeing of certain marginalised communities in Sri Lanka, a country which has become their home away from home.
Since 1997, this program has benefited hundreds of visually impaired students to realise their dreams of higher education and it stands today as a strong symbol of the longstanding amicable relationship that exists between the people of Korea and Sri Lanka.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Chang Won-sam, participated as the Chief Guest, and Chung Yeun Kook, Chairman of KBA was present as the Guest of Honour.
