Ranaviru apparels silently strengthens national economy

Sri Lanka Army’s Ranaviru Apparel industries at Yakkala and Alawwa, run purely by disable Army personnel.  These factories produce high quality uniforms for the army that are of international standards. 


The Yakkala factory has a workforce numbering over 849 with 269 machines and 17 Army officers and produced an average of 1090 uniform sets per day. In the Alawwa factory there is a workforce of 745 soldiers with 230 machines and 10 Army Officers. Both these factories, now in the process of manufacturing more than 70% of uniform requirements of the Army, have entered also into the production of qualitative T-shirts, shirts, trousers, sportswear for sale in other competitive private sector markets,

 

The salaries paid to the workers are similar to army wage rates together with all other military facilities including accessory allowances.

 

Ranaviru Apparels in Yakkala was established on 27th March 1996 in a land donated by David Meric and the second factory was opened in Alawwa in 2009.

 

With the establishment of the 'Ranaviru Apparels' the government has been able to save a millions of rupees.  Today, Ranaviru Apparels possess 1257 million rupees worth of properties.

 

The Army saluted their workforce, mainly the differently able War Heroes for their excellent contribution to the phenomenal growth of the industry in the year 2013 during a glittering ceremony at the BMICH on July 22, 2014.

 

Amid a distinguished gathering of senior officers and industry magnates, headed by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, the awards ceremony presented laurels to 2 officers and 104 other ranks who did exceptionally well in the field of production and new innovations in the year 2013.
