Lands occupied by the Sri Lanka Army and Air-Force in Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) area were vested on the lawful owners at a function held at the Vavaddikulam Lake bank yesterday (18th Sep).

Accordingly, 93 acres of paddy fields in Vavaddikulam among 24 owners, 79 acres of paddy field among 36 owners in Jangankulam and another 28.5 acres among 10 owners were distributed along with its original documents. This initiative would enable them to resume their usual cultivation process in the region. Peasant communities in area commenced the routine cultivation process as a symbolic gesture during the event.

In the mean time, troops also engaged in the initial ground preparation for cultivation along with the civilians.

The decision to release these lands was initiated in accordance with the government's policy to spearhead Northern development.

Mullaithivu District Secretary, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, Senior Military Officers, villagers and a large gathering of peasant communities were present at the occasion.
