Showers with lightning activities continues for another few days - Met Dept.

The Met. Dept. says that under the influence of Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (Northern and Southern hemispheric winds convergence Zone), showers with lightning activities during afternoon and evening will continue for another few days.

Showers or thundershowers will be fairly widespread over the island during the afternoon and night. Heavy falls (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces.

 

Showers will occur in the Western and Southern coastal areas during the morning too.

 

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.

 

City Forecast:

 

Thundershower during the afternoon and night in Rathnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Mannar, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

 

Thundershower during the afternoon and night and few morning showers in Colombo and Galle.

 

Max. Temperature of 33 °C is expected from Anuradhapura.

 

 Min. Temperature of 12 °C is expected from Nuwara Eliya.

 

24 hour period ending at 08.30 am.on 01.10.2014

 

Max. Temperature of 34.4 °C reported from Polonnaruwa.

 

Min. Temperature of 11.8 °C reported from Nuwara Eliya.

 

Maximum Rainfall of 178.1 mm reported from Ratnapura.
