Govt not swayed by rumours and gossips appear on websites

The government was not ready to work on the basis of gossips or rumours that appear on web sites, Leader of the House Irrigation and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament today.

The Leader of the House made that observation in response to a statement made by UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who raising a point of order said that there was a news story circulating on the web sites speculating that the government planned to bring about 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

UPFA National List MP A.H.M.Azwer asked as to why and how the Opposition Leader been permitted to speak on a bill which had not been presented to the House.

Galle District MP Manusha Nanayakkara said that the particular story on a speculation on 19th Amendment was nothing but a UNP plant. “This is a story that you have planted in a news web. Now you raise the same issue here. We are saddened by the situation you have come down to,” the MP said.

Leader of the House Minister Silva said that the Government would not act on gossips or rumours.  “If we want to introduce a Bill we will do it. We are not swayed by gossip and rumors that appear on various web sites,” he said. (Special Reporter/HC)
