Asian International School emerge champions

The reigning All Island Champions Asian International School convincingly defeated Royal Institute (75-45) to lift the Inter-International Champions trophy played at The Colombo International School courts last Monday. At half time scores stood at (48-18) in favour of AIS.
The Asian International under 17 team have the honour of being the only undefeated side this season.
Taher Akbarally of AIS was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament title while Damshika Piyasena, also of AIS, was awarded the Best Defensive Player. Pasindu Tharaka of Royal Institute was awarded the Best Offensive Player.
Earlier in this tournament Asian International School beat Stafford International – Colombo, Lyceum – Nugegoda and Lyceum – Wattala in the qualifying round. In the quarter final AIS defeated Lyceum – Panadura and beat CIS – Kandy comprehensively (45-10) in the semi final. In the other semi final Royal Institute beat Lyceum – Nugegoda.
In the consolation final Lyceum – Nugegoda beat CIS – Kandy to take the second runners up spot.
The other schools that participated in this tournament were Gateway College – Colombo, Belvoir College, Gateway College – Kandy, British School, Colombo International School, OKI and Elizabeth Moir.
AIS Team – Taher Akbarally (Capt), Damshika Piyasena, Vinsuka Sannasgama, Nelson Baek, Thurith Haputantri,  Gavin Ramsay, Chamathca Seneviratne, Shazon Perera, Somesh Ranasinghe, Sabesh Sathiyanthan, Canaan Perera, Ghino Fernando and Daniel David. The team is ably coached and guided by Ajith Kuruppu.
