Is Govt. scared of Champika?
The statement made in Parliament by Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi that former Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka is responsible for the Rs.1500 million fraud that occurred when importing coal to Norochcholai coal power station has boomeranged on the government.
The JHU has taken a firm stand against the attempt by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold an illegal and unethical presidential election. It publicly states presidential powers should be limited and has stated that it would take all measures to chase away the President if no action is taken to amend the Constitution before the presidential election.
In such an environment an attempt was made to corner Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka by revealing the fraud at the coal power station and stating that action would be taken. However, Minister Ranawaka challenged the government to reveal those involved in the fraud and said he would reveal frauds and corruption in the Ministry of Power and Energy and the involvement of government bigwigs in the rackets.
He had said he opposed the move to unload a stock of substandard coal, after several days he was relieved of his ministry and he was thankful to Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi for giving him an opportunity to reveal to the media what could not be revealed earlier.
With this statement the talk about having an investigation regarding the fraud at coal power station has been shelved and no investigation is being carried out at the moment say sources in the CID.
