International Conference themed 'Evolution of Buddhist Stupa' held

In parallel with the series of events organized at the Sandahiru Stupa, an International Conference on Buddhism on the theme of 'Evolution of Buddhist Stupa' was held with a view of educating the devotees including international community at the Bhikshu University in Anuradhapura yesterday (22nd Nov).

The keynote address of the international conference was delivered by the Prof. Nimal De Silva, former Director General of the Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya enlightening the listeners.

 

Pagodas are known be the biggest religious monument in Buddhism. A large gathering of foreign and local Bhikkus were present at the notable religious forum.

 

His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his visit to the sacred city of Anuradhapura, laid floral tributes at the Civil Security Department (CSD) cenotaph to commemorate the supreme sacrifice and the heroic deeds of their brave men and woman in the same day eve.

 

Subsequently, President Rajapaksa symbolically awarded letters of pension conferment to 10 CSD staff members at the Mihintale Stadium. Meanwhile, keys of 271 new houses were also handed over to the CSD house recipients. Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Director General of Department of Civil Security was also present at the event.

 

In addition to the involvement in the national development process, brick manufacturing and reconstruction of archaeological sites are some of the duties assigned to the talented Civil Security Department staff.

 

The concluding ceremony of depositing of Omnificent Sacred Relics in the hemispherical dome of the Stupa was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa auspiciously this moring (23rd Nov).(MoD/KH)
