SriLankan quiz team wins Governor’s Challenge Trophy at Global Commerce Quiz

The quiz team of SriLankan Airlines won first place in the ‘Public Sector Institutions’ category at the Global Commerce Quiz for the Governor’s Challenge Trophy 2014, held recently at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo.
The SriLankan team defeated a number of public sector organisations including the team from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. They were also placed joint 10th in the overall score tables of the quiz competition, jointly organised by the Shippers’ Academy of Colombo and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The quiz was conducted by the International Quizzing Association’s Sri Lanka chapter, maintaining the highest standards and testing knowledge in the fields of global commerce, trade and transport in addition to general knowledge and current affairs.
The competition brought together 33 teams representing the county’s leading banking, insurance, information technology, transport, shipping and other mercantile institutions, who vied for seven acclaimed titles in addition to the overall championship.
The SriLankan Airlines’ quiz team, which was led by Vidya Siriwardhanateam and comprised Thusitha Wijesooriya, Nalaka Abeyratne, Suman Udayakumaran and Ruwan Bandara, finished ahead of several leading banking, insurance, shipping and export companies.

 
The team was awarded a trophy and certificates at the Global Commerce Excellence Awards ceremony which was held subsequent to the quiz.
The bi-annual prestigious Global Commerce Excellence Awards felicitated many big names in the export industry who contributed to the country’s economic growth.
National Carrier, SriLankan Airlines was also named the Best International Airline, in recognition of its service excellence and contribution towards Sri Lanka’s economy.
