Champika is making a big mistake

The decision taken on 8th January to increase the salaries of engineers in Ceylon Electricity Board is a serious mistake and a fraud. Also, the present Minister of Power Patali Champika Ranawaka presenting a cabinet paper to legalize the matter is a worse mistake says the convener of ‘Voice against Corruption’ (VAC) Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Speaking at a media conference convened by VAC yesterday (30th) Mr. Samarasinghe said, “Doesn’t Mr. Champika Ranawaka, who has formed an organization against fraud and corruption and asks people to give him information regarding frauds and corruption in the country, know that he too has been involved in such a fraud? Didn't he know that the move was illegal before he presented a cabinet paper? If he presented the cabinet paper knowingly he is making a big mistake. Mr. Ranawaka should correct what he is going to do. The cabinet, instead of approving this, should punish the culprits as it has been done without the approval of the Treasury. All other frauds would be legalized due to what the Minister is attempting to do. Legalizing a fraud while Mr. Champika Ranawaka saying he is against fraud and corruption would be a big mistake. The Minister should immediately mediate to correct this folly. We are prepared to act against any attempt by the government to go on a path ignoring the mandate given by the people.”
