‘Elephant book’ found!

- lankatruth.com

The book that contained data regarding registration of elephants in Sri Lanka has been found says the Deputy Minister of Wildlife Conservation Wasantha Senanayaka. He revealed this at a political programme telecast yesterday (31st). The Deputy Minister revealed that the officials had stated the book had never been displaced.

Ministers in Rajapaksa government including its Minister of Wildlife maintained that the book known as ‘Elephant Book’ that includes information regarding elephants had been lost. Environmentalists say the bigwigs of the former government would have displaced the book to conceal the elephant rackets they carried out during that period.

After the fall of Rajapaksa regime elephants and elephant calves have been found from many places including temples. Two elephant calves illegally kept by former defense secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa have been sent to the elephant orphanage at Pinnawela to avoid being prosecuted.
