Sushma Swaraj to arrive in SL on Friday

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to arrive in Colombo on Friday to set the stage for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sri Lanka this month.

During her two-day stay, Swaraj is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

Prime Minister Modi is to arrive on March 13 on a three-day official visit. The visit will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister since 1987. President Maithripala Sirisena made his first official overseas visit to India last month.

The high-level visit is likely to cover an array of bilateral and strategic issues concerning the neighbors. The fishermen's issue, Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Sri Lanka, and the work on the Sampur power plant with Indian assistance are expected to be some of the issues on the table.. During his visit, Modi is also scheduled to travel to Anuradhapura, Kandy and Jaffna in the North where India is funding the construction of 50,000 house for the internally displaced.
