Nimal Lewke appointed Chairman of National Sports Council

Retired senior DIG Nimal Lewke has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Sports Council for a period of three years by Minister of Tourism and Sports Navin Dissanayake.

According to the press release issued by the Ministry, the 12-Member Council consists of a number of leading sport personalities. Shantha Weerasinghe is the Secretary of the Council.


Other members include Director General, Department of Sports Development, S Wirithamulla, Sidath Wetthamuni, N. Selvakumaran, Prof. Arjuna De Silva, Mrs. Caryll Tozer, B.L.H Perera, Sunil Gunawardena, Mrs. Susanthika Jayasinghe, Julian Bolling, B.A Abeyratne (Ministry of Education).

 

"Under the terms of the section 4 (2) of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973 (as amended) and regulations made there under the Minister of Tourism and Sports Navin Dissanayake has appointed Members of the National Sports Council to advise the Minister on matters pertaining to development of sports for a period of three years (2015/2017)," the release said.
