Vesak is a splendid time to view the city as it comes alive with colour and spiritual festivity. The Colombo City Tour, a venture led by Sri Lanka Tourism and Ebert Silva Holidays, offers exclusive and mesmerising evening tours to both foreigners and locals to view Colombo like never before during Vesak, on board its open deck double-decker buses.
The tours will commence from Galle Face at 7.00 p.m. on four memorable evenings on 3, 4, 5 and 6 May. Scheduled for approximately four hours, the city tours will take sightseers past numerous colourful Vesak zones, pandols and other vibrant scenes scattered across the city. The colourful ‘Buddharashmi’ Vesak Kalapaya, organised by the Gangarama Temple and the Prime Minister’s office, is also viewed along the picturesque Beira Lake, Navam Mawatha, Perehera Mawatha and the Pittala junction and the Vesak zone along Bauddhaloka Mawatha will be the highlights of the tours.
The open deck tours will enable travellers to get a unique view of the beautifully illuminated city, many pandols, Bakthi Gee performances, religious exhibits and intricately carved Vesak lanterns and many more. There will be lively commentary delivered by professional guides with snacks served on board the double-deckers while on tour. There will be regular tours as well as the option of chartering open double-deckers for special groups to view Vesak.
The Vesak Tours on board the Colombo City Tour double-deckers have been eagerly anticipated by the young and old alike for many years now. The venture has now gained much popularity and heightened the value of the touristic experiences the city of Colombo has to offer to its visitors from around the world.
