Maine poets are praising Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman’s performance at Wednesday's inauguration of President Joe Biden.

Amanda Gorman is fast becoming a household name after she delivered a powerful inauguration poem at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, challenging Americans to unify and "leave behind a country better than the one we were left."

Gorman said the insurrection at the Capitol building on Jan. 6, helped spur her completion of the poem.
