Lon Brunner

Alonzo J. “Lon” Brunner, 70, of Columbia City, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 8, 1950, in Warsaw, a son of the late Ralph E. and Helen B. (Rosenagle) Brunner. He spent his formative years in South Whitley and graduated from South Whitley High School.

He was employed by Huffman and Deaton Hardware for a few years, then moved to Columbia City, where he resided at Meadowbrook Manor until they closed. He then became a Passages Client living in the local group homes.

Lon was often seen around town wearing his high visibility vest as he commuted on foot to area shops, convenience stores, and his regular destination of Walmart.

He is survived by his caretakers, Ronald and Beth Glassley of Columbia City.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick and David Brunner.

The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Lon will be laid to rest next to his family at the Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to donor’s choice.
