Sri Lanka tea faces challenges due to other beverages, climate and wages: Study
July 08, 2015 (LBO) – Competition from other beverages, climatic changes and worker wages are the key issues global tea industry is facing including Sri Lanka, a recent study has showed.
“The study points out that the tea industry will have to fight it out to sustain or grow its share with strong competition coming in from other ‘beverage’ producers,” a new study from Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said.
“Climatic changes will also cause issues to the industry, as the ‘tea plant is very delicate to the changes in temperature and rainfall,”
“Another problem is worker movement out of the industry seeking better wages,”
The study contains information about the competitors of Sri Lanka’s tea industry, one of the world’s largest exporters of tea.
The study has been conducted by the Business Information Division of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
