Press Pressler

Leolan “Press” Pressler, 89, of Columbia City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe. Born July 4, 1931, in Wabash, he was the son of Ray and Ruth (Bowers) Pressler.

After moving to Whitley County in 1945, he graduated from Larwill High School with the Class of 1949. Press served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Sept. 27, 1958, he married Diana L. Place in Syracuse. Press worked for G.E. in Fort Wayne and retired from Weatherhead Dana in Columbia City. He was a member of Columbia City American Legion. Press loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed watching motocross, tractor pulls, car shows and camping at Jellystone. He was a skilled woodworker and an avid IU and Fort Wayne Tin Cap’s fan.

He is survived by his children, Monica Maloney, Layne (Janine) Pressler and Sue (Doug) Smith; companion, Kathy Teegardin; grandchildren, Lynn Pressler, David Pressler, Michael (Krisa) Pressler, Camron Pressler and Cady (Vincent) Filluzzi; and great-grandchildren, Paige, Mathew, Brennan, Emma Lou, David and Rilee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana Pressler in 2009; son-in-law, Ed Maloney; and beloved dog, Jasmine.

Visitation is 11 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Face masks are required for attendance. There will be a private family funeral services but his funeral may be watched live on Facebook through DeMoney Grimes Live beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at South Park Annex Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in memory to the Humane Society of Whitley County.
