SYRACUSE —  Officers with the Syracuse Police Department and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a high-speed chase resulting in a crash Friday morning, Nov. 20.

The motorist, Travis Mrozinski, 25, 310 N. Hickory St., North Webster, led Syracuse Police on a high-speed chase from Kosciusko County into Elkhart County.

The chase began around 7:49 a.m.

While traveling south on SR 13, a Syracuse police officer’s vehicle was nearly struck head-on by a 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Mrozinski, who was traveling at a high rate of speed. Mrozinski continued driving recklessly on SR 13, passing vehicles and failing to yield for traffic signals, a police report said.

After driving around crossing arms down at the railroad tracks, another Syracuse police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Mrozinski refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit in Elkhart County that reached speeds of 132 mph.

While headed north on CR 15, south of CR 30, in Goshen, Mrozinski lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and collide with a tree. Mrozinski then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended a short time later by Syracuse police.

Mrozinski was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for minor bleeding to his head from the crash.
After Mrozinski was released from the hospital he was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and resisting law enforcement-misdemeanor.

Syracuse Police were assisted by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Goshen Police Department, Indiana State Police and Goshen Fire/Rescue.
