WARSAW – Most following Warsaw athletics knows of the successes Aaron Greene has made as a football player. Greene, however, is following a different path to carry on his athletic name.

Greene has chosen to continue his collegiate athletics and academics in baseball, signing with Trine University.

The Warsaw Community High School senior did not have a junior season, and didn’t have much of a sophomore season, either. His sophomore season was cut short in horrific measures after he suffered a lacerated spleen in an outfield collision just seven games into the season.

Greene had to work his way back into athletics, and did so in football as a junior, then took over as a full-time quarterback as a senior. With the Tigers in 2020, he compiled over 1,400 yards of total offense and 17 total touchdowns. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in Bart Curtis’ offense and was an All-Northern Lakes Conference performer with the NLC champions. Greene also had a hand in the first-ever football sectional title for Warsaw in 2019.

Going back to his baseball exploits, his seven games produced six hits, a double, three RBI and five runs scored. He batted .286 and produced a .318 on-base percentage with three stolen bases as a sophomore.

“Aaron brings his experience and leadership as a starting quarterback to our team,” said Warsaw baseball head coach Andy Manes. “Versatile player who will probably play both infield and outfield for us. Great fit for the baseball program at Trine.”

Greene is a fantastic student as well, holding a 4.19 GPA and has his sights set on studying mechanical engineering at Trine, an institution known for its engineering programs.

Trine baseball is led by longtime head coach Greg Perschke, who has led the program since 2002. The Thunder are an NCAA Division III program and part of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Thunder had won eight straight games to end its 2020 spring season, finishing 9-2 before the season was halted.

“I chose Trine because of its outstanding engineering program, and competitive baseball program,” added Greene of his decision to go with Trine and the Thunder.
