Former Minister Ferial Ashraff testifies before Lessons Learnt Commission
Former Minister Ferial Ashraff has told the Reconciliation Commission that unnecessary disputes arose following the the Ceasefire Agreement signed by the UNP without considering its repercussions.
The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by the President to recommend initiatives that should be taken met in Colombo today. Testifying before the Commission, National United Alliance Leader Ferial Ashraff said the UNP did not appraise any party about the inking of the Ceasefire Agreement. The Muslim fraternity always made attempts to work in collaboration with other communities. But Mrs. Ashraff pointed out that the LTTE was engaged in a conspiracy to create a rift between the Muslims and other communities. She emphasized to the Commission that the country has now received the correct leadership which has the ability to take the motherland forward within an environment in which all nations can live in peace and harmony.
In the meantime, leaders representing the Religious Congress also testified before the Commission today. They included the Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalaratne thera.
