Delegation in Malaysia to promote tourism
A high level delegation from Sri Lanka Tourism is currently attending the World Tourism Conference in Kota-Kinabalu in Malaysia.
Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena met the World Tourism Organisation Secretary General Dr. Taleb Rifai during the conference. They discussed avenues to develop Sri Lanka tourism and to find possibilities of obtaining assistance from the World Tourism Organisation to develop tourism in Sri Lanka. The conference is timely as the tourism industry is poised for a rebound in view of the pent-up demand for travel arising from the global economic crisis in 2009. Sri Lanka will host the 23rd United Nations World Tourism Organisation Commission for Asia meeting next year. This will be attended by the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, heads of national tourism organizations and international media.
The Deputy Minister handed over a Sri Lanka souvenir to the Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman at the World Tourism Conference following the discussion on tourism between the two countries.
