Fraudster arrested
A suspect, who had been raising funds summoning amateur artistes for a teledrama for ITN, has been remanded.
He had been duping them by claiming that the teledrama would be telecast on ITN. He had also been using ITN’s logo and engaged in various programmes. He had invited amateurs to play roles in the tele drama and collected cash from them. Shooting had also been carried out in the Kottawa Seethagala area. Inquiry teams had been able to uncover that he had collected money from about 15 debutants. The police seized a stock of stickers with the ITN emblem. The Galle Police Fraud Monitoring Division had nabbed the suspect. He was produced before the Baddegama Acting Magistrate today. The suspect was remanded until Tuesday.
